emulating Amiga OS 4.1 with fs-uae under linux – preparing the host – going further – conclusions and limitations

Hits: 80

Why this tutorial ?

I’ve seen many tutos on emulating Amiga OS 4 with WinUAE under Windows, but not under linux, which needs some preparation, the installation of dependencies, and the QEMU module.

Thanks to Stéphane L. and Serge A. from the Facebook group “Amiga (only) pour toujours and beyond” for discussing around this subject.

You must have FS-UAE installed on your machine. I won’t enter into the details of its installation. If you want to install it onto Ubuntu, just get to this page :

You also need ROMS and Amiga OS 4 itself.

For the ROMS, the most simple is Amiga Forever :

For Amiga OS 4, get it in your preferred shop :

Preparing your host

You tutorial is available below. It represents a lot of work and time, please, show me your support in registering below. You will be able to download my modules and access all the tutorials of my blog. I’ll send you from time to time (less than once a month) the last news about my music and my amiga projects.

I advice the update of your OS

sudo apt-get update

sudo apt-get upgrade

then fs-uae will be at the last version available.

Amiga OS 4 needs a PPC card to run. This implies the installation of QEMU module, that you can find simply on fs-uae website, download page :

download QEMU

Extract it to « ~/Documents/FS-UAE/Plugins »

Extract to “Plugins” folder

Without the needed dependencies, we get a fs-uae crash (“obsolete versions”)…

A little

sudo apt-get install libdrm-amdgpu1 libdrm2 libegl1-mesa libegk1-mesa-dri libwaylnd-egl1-mesa

is necessary.

install dependencies

You accept the installation :

accept installation

You must import the ROMS from the Amiga Forever CD (many options are available. Personnaly, I had already the ROMS backuped on my hard drive)

installing ROMS from Amiga Forever CD

Creation of a dedicated Amiga OS 4 configuration, clicking on the “New Configuration” icon, in the top-left of fs-uae window, just beside the menu.

This done, choose « A4000 » then « 3.1 ROMS, Cyberstorm PPC (Amiga OS 4.x) »

A4000 » then « 3.1 ROMS, Cyberstorm PPC (Amiga OS 4.x)

Using the « create an HDF » option, create an hard drive « HDF WITH RDB », then select it the hard drives part. I choosed to make a 2Gb one, with the name « amigaos4.hdf ».

Then you choose the iso of the Amiga OS 4.1 DVD that you created from the original one using a tool like “Brasero”

Select Amiga OS 4 ISO

And then you can see that the machine starts like hell.

Amiga OS CDROM running

Installation of Amiga OS 4.1 :

Next step is the Amiga OS 4.1 installation itself. In order this article not to be too long, i’ve described it in this article : https://amiga.thewetmachine.net/en/2019/01/05/emulating-amiga-os-4-1-with-fs-uae-under-linux-installation-stage-all-the-steps/

Installation ended, Amiga OS 4 is finally installed :

Tadaaaa !

tadaaaaa !

Network configuration

Final step is to configure network. It is also described in an other article : https://amiga.thewetmachine.net/en/2019/01/06/emulating-amiga-os-4-1-with-fs-uae-under-linux-networking-and-internet-settings/

You must install the updates and the “extras”.

First ones are available for registered users, the second ones are on the Amiga OS DVD.

Warp3D compatible libraries, that does 100% processor, which can be very usefull on emulation.

They can be downloaded from here : http://aminet.net/package/driver/video/Wazp3D

Original project webpage : http://thellier.free.fr/Wazp3D.htm

Thanks to Serge A. for links and informations. He pointed me a very interesting thread about Wazp3D on Amiga-NG.ORG forum : https://www.amiga-ng.org/viewtopic.php?topic=1926&forum=8&start=150

Going further :

Personnally, I like that my emulation starts by itself from the power button of the computer. Most of all, I have THE box for it : The X500+ box. I really think i’m on a real one.

my so wonderfull X500+ box for my emulated amiga 4000

If you wanna know how to do, and if you have the “DIY” spirit (“Do It Yourself”), you can read thoses articles :

Conclusions / Limitations :

So well… I’ve been disapointed by those points :

1-speed : it’s usable, but try to launch a module under milkytracker and move a workbench window, the sound… cracks and isn’t fluid. From a general point of view, the system is slow, far from from what I wait of an Amiga OS.

2-impossible to share host folders : we can’t mount an host folder with QEMU… To share datas with outside world you must then get through an émulated Amiga OS 3 and write to a HDF that you mount after into Amiga OS 4. It’ a bit long and annoying.

3-memory limitations to PPC 128Meg and the imposibility to use FAST RAM extensions : this is limitating. Amiga OS 4 uses the half of it after launched. It lets only 64 Meg to work...

4-green screen : after booting my machine and making it autostart from power button, i get a green screen and have to cold reset the amiga to make it work. This does not do that when I launch fs-uae for the first time in the session. Maybe some QEMU strange stuff.

5-a very good way to discover but… My conclusion is that emulating Amiga OS 4 is a very good way to discover it because it’s genious OS, but… i’ll stay on my emulated OS Amiga OS 3.1 / 68060 / 8Meg Chip / 1Gig de Fast, which lets me launch Haujobb demos without problem.

A journey through Icaros (update from 2.2.4 to 2.2.5)

Hits: 400

Do you want to know all what Icaros can give you ?

Today is a journey trhough the last 2.2.5 version of Icaros, that was released on 2018.12.21, just for Christmas.

As always, it is the best version of this distribution.

Icaros is a distribution of AROS. AROS is a reimplementation of Amiga OS 3.1, available on many different platforms.

Icaros is the x86 version that offers the best user experience, and the best stability.

It is also the most living distribution, that has the highest number of updates.

Why IcAROS ?

I have so many reasons.

First, I LOVE Amiga so much.

After, this is an open source OS, that is for me the best way to do computering (not the only one).

Finally, i think that an Amiga NG with so many capacities, developped by a so little number of peoples, capable to work on a so old hardware that is so less expensive, is a REAL MIRACLE.

Make an Icaros box :

This is the first step.

I won’t get into detials, it asks for personnal investment, but it is simple.

One must make a box with extension card that are compatible, to be able to have the best possible experience of Icaros.

The Hardware compatibility list is at this page : https://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Aros/Platforms/x86_support

Personally, here is my hardware :

the eye of icaros

DELL Optiplex 755 (Pentium D socket 775)

  • 2Gb RAM DDR2 667MHz
  • carte réseau Intel 8169 chip
  • Nvidia quadro 380
  • carte son Creative Audigy II
  • 256GB disque dur SSD (mais utilisé en mode legacy…)

To know more about my Icaros box, and for some more photos : https://amiga.thewetmachine.net/en/icaros-box/

First installation ?

Here is an article to install Icaros. It’s a bit old (it was for 1.5.2), but there are many interesting things to read there :

Post installation advices :

If this is your first install of icaros, you should read this article that have advices and parameters :

If you want to share with SMB on linux, here is my article :

The UPDATE itself

That’s simple. You must go to this address, and dowload the update package. Ofcourse, this is for peoples who have a functional machine. The others must install from scratch, stuff I won’t speak about here.

download the update
record it where you want
Backuping first, while watching a demo. Personally, I really like Dopus 2 and Rink a Dink.

Then, as said in this video : http://vmwaros.blogspot.com/2018/12/how-to-update-icaros-desktop.html

You should launch : sys:Tools/LUPD and restart.

tutorial video

Update in progress

After the reboot, the update software asks for the method to use
so you choose “file”, and search for the zip file
The tool does its job, first step is devrunching
it tells you before writing down
An AROS DOS window tells you where the steps are
et ça y est, after a minute or 2

As you saw, it just worked alone by itself.

Tadaaaa !!!

after the reboot, we can see that the verion of the binaries are the one from November 2018

Settings and workarounds

Ofcourse, still little bugs et settings to do :

The SMB-HANDLER bug : https://amiga.thewetmachine.net/en/2016/11/25/troubleshooting-icaros-2-1-3/

and some other advices : https://amiga.thewetmachine.net/en/2016/11/28/icaros-installation-advices/

Little journey listening to some modules

Here we can see “SCOUT”, the system managing software, and WIMP the windows manager.

Some drawers in SYS:, Scout (task manager), WIMP (windows manager), and MikMod (very good mods player in text format)

Theming, DOPUS 5.91

In text mode, with the options of DOPUS 5.91, or in Icons mode, under Wanderer, with the possibility to apply themes (a lot are available!)

And ofcourse, this is my saviour, DOPUS 2 !

Our goo’old DOPUS 2 !

Emulation and « coherence » mode

Ofcourse, emulation is still possible, even with the “integration” option that allows to launch 68k softs as if it was AROS itself.

I wrote an article on this subject : https://amiga.thewetmachine.net/en/2016/12/07/janus-uae-tipstricks/

an old screenshot of the coherence mode. Wanderer and classic Workbench at the same time. AmigaAmp is emulated !

Ofcourse, we still can browse the web with OWB Oddyssey Web Browser

Some advices in this article : https://amiga.thewetmachine.net/en/2016/12/07/owb-odyssey-web-browser-tipstricks/

And how to speed it up : https://amiga.thewetmachine.net/en/2017/03/03/running-owb-from-the-ram-disk-to-improve-browsing-speed/

We are on facebook !

Access your cloud drives directly from the prefs (not tested yet, i’ll do a tutorial on that).

Clouds configuration interface

I’ve written an article on this when Amicloud was released, available for all Amiga OS like : https://amiga.thewetmachine.net/en/2017/03/08/amicloud-review-and-links/

Amicloud interface

SAMBA shares

I’ve written an article on it : https://amiga.thewetmachine.net/en/2014/04/18/icaros-share-over-the-network-between-aros-and-linux/

SMB settings

There are many. There i put Amichess, Doom and Duke Nukem.

Duke Nukem

There is an impressive list of games ported to Icaros.

There afain, Icaros has a lot of productivity softwares. There I put FinalWriter and AROSPDF.

Aros PDF

Some demos for AROS only ! Isn’t it nice ?

Many pretty native demos for AROS

Many tools like ZuneView and ZunePaint, but also Aros Icon Editor, a new for Icaros 2.2.5, and AntiRyad, raytracing software.

iconedit, new of this v 2.2.5
ZunePaint, ok, i’m not a graphist !
ZuneView and its impressive number of tools and filters. There i feel better.

I’m speaking about ZuneView int this article :

Music and Vidz

Ofcourse, a distro needs its musical creation softwares. This is my saviour, I love Milkytracker, Protrekkr, Protracker 2,3D, Harmony Player. We also have Mplayer for videos.

Protracker 2.3D aros port
Harmonyplayer, very good multi formats player
Milkytracker playing songs of… wow, those are PseudoAxos songs pour XMAS ! http://aminet.net/mods/xm/Pseudaxos_Xmas_Pack.lha
Protrekkr, so powerfull protracker like

You want more ?

So, the complete software list is endless, so I prefer a little screenshot of the available drawers, it gives a sample.

And if you want more again, let’s try AROS Archives : http://archives.aros-exec.org/

so many apps, games, desing, demos, productivity, music, huuuuge I say !

Icaros 2.2.4 troobleshooting (smb share with ubuntu 18.04, protrekkr crash, surfing with OWB…)

Hits: 107

This troobleshooting guide could be called “what should i do after installing Icaros 2.2.4 ? how do i make it work with the last ubuntu 2.2.4 ?”

First, let me tell that icaros 2.2.4 is the best version today (November 2018).

The troubles :

1) Protrekkr blank window crash (in RTG mode)

Symptom : You are in RTG mode, when you click on the icon of Protrekkr, you get a blank window

2) SMB share with ubuntu 18.04 does not work

Symptoms : you followed this article to configure your samba service on ubuntu, and you still get stuck. The share doesn’t want to appear on wanderer.

If you set samba “log level = 3” in /etc/samba/smb.conf you get this result in /var/log/log.nameofyourmachine

[2018/11/11 08:44:40.078547, 2] ../source3/auth/auth.c:332(auth_check_ntlm_password)
check_ntlm_password: Authentication for user [JESS] -> [JESS] FAILED with error NT_STATUS_WRONG_PASSWORD, authoritative=1

[2018/11/11 08:44:40.078267, 2] ../libcli/auth/ntlm_check.c:430(ntlm_password_check)
ntlm_password_check: NTLMv1 passwords NOT PERMITTED for user jess

3) Surfing on Facebook and youtube with OWEB Oddussey Web Browser is difficult (window freezes, or no video or blank video or black video)

Symptoms : when you surf on facebook you get a freeze of the window (sometimes of the whole system), or get no video, or black square instead of the window on youtube.

The solutions :

Please register, this is a hard work for me to do all those tutorials on my personal time. For this 20th anniversary of the techno parade and in honor of the love party !

For the one who love 4 tracks/8 bits and chiptunes music. Here it is, the is the last past. After 9 month of work since the first module (but not 100% as i have other projects), and my decision to release a symphonic piece, i’m almost at the end of the journey. This time i give you a “trance techno and chill” module. In fact, i get yout on orbit, and i make you fly.

Still composed on an Amiga 1200, a 35 years old machine, with its own sound, and this ‘oldy’ style, but with so much personality that i love.

Install Amiga OS 3.1 for your real Amiga (1200) using FS-UAE on linux ubuntu / Access your FFS flash card on linux

Hits: 3089

This article explains my way to install Amiga OS using FS-UAE under linux ubuntu.

There are many tutorials explaining how to install Amiga OS on a real Amiga using WinUAE under windows but none for the linux side of the world.

This is a bit different than on Windows. All the tutos I’ve read are for WinUAE on Windows, so, this is my two cents for the linux side.

Note : this tuto can be simply adapted for your Amiga 500 using the right fs-uae configuration, and downloading the good classic workbench package.

Arrrrgh ! The fast memory (128Mb snif) included on my aca1232 accelerator board seems to be a bit trashy, so Amiga OS 3.9 has problems to load correctly on my real a1200. After many attempts, i decided to downgrade to Amiga OS 3.1. This is a complete success as the OS is stable, fast, and because i don’t need more on my A1200 (making music and watching demos).

Fortunately, Linux understand Amiga OS FFS, and now it also understands Amiga partition tables, that helps a lot.

I have written and article on “how to access Amiga partitions on linux” there, i’ll use it as a base for this article.

  • Workbench 3.1 disks (ADF and REAL, or HFE for HxC) – needed to boot on the amiga OS
  • A blank CF card for installing the Amiga OS, and a CF card reader on your linux computer
  • An internet connexion for downloading the classic workbench packages
  • FS-UAE and Amiga ROMS

Formatting the CF card on the Amiga

First you need to create the partitions on the Amiga side.

launch HDToolBox

Create the first partition, in FFS (Fast File System). 1Gb is enough. Some tells it’s better to make it littler, but we will stay in FFS, wich implies we will not be able to mount partitions that are upper than 2Gb on the real amiga at the beginning, and we will maybe want to load stuffs (packages, pictures, …) from the linux side, so we will take the place we need.

choosing Install 3.1 hfe to boot on
Workbench 3.1 screen
launching HDToolbox
choosing the disk to partition

When done, format it

Swith off the Amiga

Mount the CF card on linux

my CF card inserted in my X500plus wonderfull case

When done, you can boot on your Workbench ADSP installed on your CF card on your real Amiga 1200 (or 500).

Tadaaaa !

Tadaaaaaa ! Real Workbench 3.1 ADVSP with Scalos installed and running

Icaros desktop 2.2 linux hosted version with hostbridge working on Ubuntu 17.04 64bits

Hits: 2808

What a fantastic work from Paolo and AROS community. Now, the icaros desktop environement is available for everyone who likes to use it in hosted mode WITH the hostbridge option to allow host programs to be launched from inside icaros !

This is a FAAAST tuto for ubuntu 17.04 64 bits users : some 32 bits libraries and packages are missing by default.

Get icaros

Download Light version

download the light version : http://www.icarosdesktop.com/icarosfiles/IcarosLight_2_2_0.zip

follow the manual : unzip the iso and mount it

mount -o loop -t iso9660 ~Téléchargements/Light/icaros-pc-i386.iso /mnt
mounting icaros light iso in /mnt

prepare the environement

Icaros hosted needs 32 bits libs. As many, i’m under ubuntu 17.04 64 bits. No problem : install 32 bits libraries and some other libraries. So, if in the icaros launch step you get an error like :

“./AROSBootstrap : No such file or directory”

(en français “./AROSBoostrap Aucun fichier ou dossier de ce type”)

we must install 32bits libs :

sudo apt-get install lib32ncurses5 lib32z1

32 bits libraries installing smoothly and gently

if you get those errors when launching ./icaros : “failed to open “libcursor.so.1” error, “failed to open libXxf86vm.so.1”, and/or ALSA error with libasound   :

like this error on libXcursor.so.1

THE LIBRAIRIES JUST BELOW, PLEASE REGISTER TO SHOW YOUR SUPPORT. You will then be able to access all the tutorials, and all the free downloads !

Know the name of your network interface

you will need to know the name of your network interface, just type “ifconfig” and write down the name. For me it is “enp0s3”.

output of “ifconfig” command, where we can read the interface name, here it is enp0s3

configure AROS

cd /mnt

sh hosted-install
launching icaros install script
this is what you get

choose 2 : configure linux network

when settings network environement, icaros install some packages like uml-utilities to allow routing

follow the instructions. When asked for the name of the network interface, type the name of the interface you got the step before.

choose 3 : Install Icaros

icaros files are being copied

I think you should give only 1Gb to AROS, as it is quite enough for it to run smoothly. You will be able to change this in the future.

First launch

cd ~/IcarosDesktop
change of directory and launch icaros command

normally, everything has been done to make icaros run smoothly.

you should answer yes, seems better to have a network under icaros

on the first start, configure icaros and unzip extras

as you always do : configure icaros on first start
when it comes to X11 configuration, i would prefer to just “save”, don’t modify anything, cause it hangs if you do

You are now under icaros desktop. tadaaa

wonderfull 🙂

Exit icaros

I’ve found only one way :

sudo killall AROSBootstrap

This answer of ncafferkey tells me that the shutdown command in icaros makes the job, it’s smarter : http://aros-exec.org/userinfo.php?uid=219

amiga OS 3.9 – how to install SmartFileSystem – large HD support – migrating your Amiga OS

Hits: 769

Today an article on how to install SmartFileSystem on Amiga OS 3.9. There is also a part on migration to SFS for the one who want their entire OS hard drive booting directly in SFS.

Why ?

  • FFS is “Fast File System”
  • SFS is “Smart File System”

With FFS :

I’ve been more than once in front of the problem of partition validating for ages in cause of a crash when some writing was going. This is not so annoying when it is a FD that is 880Kb big, but when it is a 3Gb partition…

As I have backups of my files, what I did was to reformat the partition each time, and copy back the files (faster then waiting for the revalidation!).

Other problem is the speed of this filesystem.

Last minute note : to avoid long validation, you can use the tool “disksafe”, that you can find on aminet.

With SFS :

the speed is better, there is no revalidation, and the defragmentation is included “on the go”, and you have a better Large HD support.

AROS : will access the partitions natively in a more robust way than with FFS.

And I’ve made absolutely all the possible errors, so I want to share my experience.

Note 2018 03 09 : After experimenting a lot, you should keep the first partition in FFS to be able to share your files with your linux system, like in those two articles :

Install Amiga OS 3.1 for your real Amiga (1200) using FS-UAE on linux ubuntu / Access your FFS flash card on linux
access amiga FFS Hard Drive (or CF) under ubuntu

Don’t forget : each time you change a parameter inside HDInstTools, please, press “ENTER”. If you don’t, the entry won’t be validated.

Before a change on a partition can be taken in account, you must *reboot* your system.

Note 2018 03 09 : After experimenting a lot, you should keep the first partition in FFS to be able to share your files with your linux system, and use “disksafe” from aminet for a safer FFS use

  1. get SFS
  2. get HDInstTools
  3. Install the filesystem on the boot block to enable it at boot
  4. copy your system to the new drive
  5. install nSDPatch to your new OS installation
  6. get all your partitions working

Amicloud howto, review and links – when the cloud comes to AROS, icaros desktop, and amiga OS3.9 classic (and all others : windows/linux/mac/morphos/aos4…)

What is Amicloud, and why use it ?

Hi, today an article on Amicloud.

Amicloud is like dropbox, google drive, owncloud… is it a “cloud” solution.

Many people say that “there is no cloud, but only another people’s computer”. They are half right.

There is not only a server, but also a client software which runs in the background, allowing the server and the client to synchronize without the user to do anything.

In the past, we had to copy the file on a USB key (or even a d7 🙂 ), and transfer it to the other computer. If we make a change on the file, we had to copy it back to the first computer. To share the file in order to work on it with other peoples, we had to send it by mail (or email), wait for the other to send it back… It was not very handy (but we did it anyway, i’m not saying we couldn’t work !).

This is what is called a cloud : you just have to copy a file in a place, this file appears automatically on all the computers where the client has been installed on. And you can share them with other peoples just by sending a web address.

Cloud system is so handy that I have installed owncloud at my job for customers to use it, and this is a success : whatever peripheral you use : phone, tablet, computer, macintosh, windows, … you have your files everywhere you need them.

Now, Amicloud bring this to Amiga and related OS (MorphOS, AROS, Amiga OS 68K). It is FANTASTIC !

It is not a free tool, but it is worth the price (very low, in my opinion).

Purchasing it :

get to <A HREF="http://amicloud.de">http://amicloud.de</A> ( https://www.aeros-os.org/styled-14/index.html )
get to http://amicloud.de ( https://www.aeros-os.org/styled-14/index.html )
Choose your formule. I prefered to get only AEROS Plus, because I'm only interested in testing Amicloud for the moment.
Choose your formula on the left. I prefered to get only AEROS Plus, because I’m only interested in testing Amicloud for the moment. Click on “subscribe”.
The different purchase formulas :
  • AEROS Plus : 1€ monthly for 1 year (12€/year). One paiement, you get 5 Gb and an activation code for every OS type you wish.
  • AEROS + Amicloud Pro : 5€ monthly  for 1 year. One paiement, and you get 25Gb and an activation code for every OS type you wish.
  • with Patreon (https://www.patreon.com/posts/amicloud-1-2-for-8357143) : patreon applies taxes only once (if compared to Paypal), so the programers get a little bit more money (i haven’t tried this solution)
  • You can purchase every client once (without monthly fees) : i haven’t tried this
You are redirected to the paypal shop for ARES
You are redirected to the paypal shop for ARES. Choose your paiement formula, and do it.
I personally decided to use paypal
Everything’s OK. paiement is monthly for the AEROS Plus formula. 1€ is not much !

Preparing the sync drawer on AROS :

We must create a new drawer to prepare the syncing place
I create it with an icon.

Downloading on AROS

New account creation (only once) :

Account creation : you click on the little pencil and enter your username and password (that will be your account)
you must type your password again
you must provide the email address you have given when purchasing Amicloud
Each time the program sees that you connect to an account on a new OS type, it ask for a registration. I use voucher codes, because I am on a monthly paiement.
The codes have been sent to me by Pascal Papara. Maybe you will wait for some hours after you purchased the program because everything is managed by hands by Pascal.
So you enter the voucher code that correspond to your OS (here AROS)

Complete the registration on Indie-GO! :

[caption id="attachment_2404" align="aligncenter" width="629"] After your account creation, you receive (only once), an email asking for completing your registration. Just click on the link.[/caption] [caption id="attachment_2405" align="aligncenter" width="900"] If everything is okay, you should get this.[/caption]

Syncing your first files on AROS :

To test the solution, I just copied some files into the Amicloud directory using DOpus
The files are copied
it is instantaneous : the synchronization begins
When it is done, we get a kind message
I tried to add a file to see how it reacts. That’s good, the synchronization is done automatically.
you can “pause” the synchronization

On Windows :

Preparing the Sync forder on Windows 7/10 :

just create a drawer
just create a drawer

Using Amicloud and syncing files on Windows 7/10 (with a trick for win 10) :

As for AROS, choose the right executable
As for AROS, choose the right executable on the download page
save the file and unzip it
the drawer after unzipping contains 2 other drawers, go to the Windows one
the drawer after unzipping contains 2 other drawers, go to the Windows one
and copy the included “Amicloud” drawer wherever you wish
This is the content of the Amicloud drawer, launch “Amicloud”
As on AROS with the shell window, we here have a DOS one
With the window, as on AROS
With the window, as on AROS
connect using the account you created before
Choose the drawer you created before
Choose the drawer you created before
The same, as it is the first time you connected from a window OS, it asks for a registration
The same, as it is the first time you connected from a window OS, it asks for a registration
enter the right voucher code for windows
enter the right voucher code for windows. It will be asked only once. If you install a new Windows version of amicloud on an other computer, or reinstall it, it won’t ask this registration again.
We have synchronized files on AROS. Right after registration, the synchronization on your new windows installation begins.
We have synchronized files on AROS. Right after registration, the synchronization on your new windows installation begins.
So, it is done !
So, it is done !
And, this is right, the files are there !
And, this is right, the files are there !

Windows 10 amicloud window does not appear (is hidden) trick :

[caption id="attachment_2430" align="aligncenter" width="452"]On windows 10, the Amicloud window does not appear, or we cannot focus on it, so it is not possible to register. On windows 10, the Amicloud window does not appear, or we cannot focus on it, so it is not possible to register.[/caption]

The windows does not appear on my windows 10 (it is impossible to focus on). So I installed on windows 7, and copy the file “tmp/winpos” in the same drawer of my win 10 amicloud drawer, and tadaaa, the window appear and you can log in.

Here is mine, if needed (zipped) : winpos

Mac OS X and Amiga OS 3.9 test is coming !

More about Amicloud :

Some simple settings :

When I have some time, I’ll add here some available settings.

About activations (voucher codes) :

You can install amicloud any number of times you need, on any number of computer you need. The only condition is to have asked for a voucher code for each OS you use to Pascal Papara, first.

Only one activation per OS type is needed. If you install again Ammicloud on an other computer with the same OS, you just have to type your login and password, it won’t ask for the voucher code again.

icaros desktop – Running OWB from the RAM Disk to improve browsing speed

Hits: 274

Speed comparison :

I’ve made a little video to show the difference.

Click to accept cookies and enable this content

It’s proved : OWB speed is much better when running from RAM Disk.

How to automate :

I think the best is to add a little script which copy OWB drawer from SYS:Utilities to RAM Disk: into your User-Startup

So add this :

mkdir ram:OWB
copy sys:Utilities/OWB Ram:OWB/ ALL CLONE >NIL:
copy sys:Utilities/OWB.info Ram: >NIL:

Problems :

the copy time is long (it is still usable : almost 20s added to the boot time), but we can make it faster if we delete useless files from the OWB drawer (docs, …)

If you don’t copy the drawer back onto the HD, you won’t save your cache, cookies, passwords… So you need a script for it.
